In the bar are three hard-boiled modern efficent young women and an embryo tennis-champion, not so hard boiled. To them, discussing life in general and the club in particular, enters the ghost of the girl whose people had owned the house before it became a club. They think she is dressed for the evening's fancy-dress dance until, Edwardian, Suffragette and rather intimidating, she tells her own story and then begins to question them on the use they have made of the liberty which she and her kind gained for them. Rather shamefully they tell her slightly sordid stories, but in the end the ghost vanishes, apparently satisfied with them.
